The field cultivation of Triticum, as invented some 10,000 years ago, represents a different kind of agriculture, which humans occasionally employed after the end of the Pleistocene. Agriculture arises independently among humans wherever it is possible, and our ability to farm and hybridize is innate. But, it is accompanied by our innate capacity to treat plants, and every stalk of wheat, as sacred.
