Karin Clarke Gallery celebrates the New Year with a powerful exhibit of 27 paintings by Eugene artist Margaret Coe. Coe is one of the most admired painters in this area. She taught at the University of Oregon and Lane Community College, and she is exhibited extensively in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. In 2017-2018 she was honored with a retrospective exhibit with her late husband, painter Mark Clarke, at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
Coe’s new show simply called “Work” represents her pandemic-era oils on canvas, painted between 2020 and 2022. Most of these were painted in her own backyard which backs up to the woods of Southeast Eugene. She says, “these works are such personalized interpretations of the plants and trees around me that they exist as mystical experiences for me rather than representing something. They are meditations.”
In addition, several pieces painted at other Oregon locations, as well as five older, reworked pieces from travels in France and Italy are on exhibit. We hope that you can join us and meet the artist at the Saturday, January 21 reception.
