Reception for artists: Friday, Mar 4th, 5:30-7:30 pm
Humberto Gonzalez has been exhibiting at Karin Clarke since 2004 and is best known for his lush, colorful plain-air watercolors of the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Coast.
His paintings capture the sparkle of the light on the coastal waters, and the dance of colors across an Oregon vineyard or flower garden. Gonzalez never ceases to wonder at the manifest beauty of our local landscape, and he brings his lively color palette to his approach. For this exhibit, ten large-scale paintings and a number of smaller works will be on display.
New to our gallery, Hart James currently lives in Annacortes, WA, but lived in the Corvallis area for 15 years where she raised her kids. From 1970 to 1979, James studied at prestigious schools for the arts: Northwestern, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Art Institute. Her career has been ramping up over the last 15 years, with artist residency awards and solo exhibits in notable west coast galleries. Next year James will be exhibiting at The Museum of Northwest Art in La Connor, WA.
James works primarily with oil and charcoal on canvas and her subject is the dramatic northwest landscape. Several paintings in this show are based on the Hoh Rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington, where she took a spontaneous camping trip with a friend in the summer of 2021.
We invite you to meet both artists at their first Friday reception on March 4th.
